Member Tributes
-
One of our long-time members - Mike Grant - was honored with the
INFORMS Moving Spirit Award. This award recognizes members who have
made significant contributions to their local chapters. Mike was also profiled
on INFORMS Online back in May 1999!
-
Another of our members - Mary Crissey - was also profiled
on IOL in October 2000.
-
Our chapter was recognized at the Oct 03 annual meeting in Atlanta when
one of our own was selected as the MOVING SPIRIT winner! See the
photo of Al
Holder in the Feb 2004 edition of ORMS Today. Allen
Holder brings vibrant energy to the dwindling San Antonio chapter. Thanks
to him, the chapter received access to lecture halls on Trinity Campus
for PowerPoint presentations. Prior to 2000, the chapter limited gatherings
to informal socials in restaurants. Due to his active service at national
level (currently an officer of Health Applications Section) and his reputation
as an author and reviewer for many journals, he's attracted world-renowned
speakers to San Antonio, from Canada, the East Coast and even New Zealand.
Thanks to him, chapter members continue to form new OR friendships.

Mary Crissey seeks your ideas for local chapter activities:
Mary invites new (and old!) OR grads or mathematicians to contact her with
suggestions. She is curious to hear if you are associated with other
society groups and wonder if any of you may be attending the IIE
meeting in Houston next month. As a CPMS board member, Mary is
looking for those with examples of real world OR projects to speak in Denver
for the Oct '04 meeting. If you happen to use SAS software to conduct
your OR analysis - there is the possibility that she may be able to talk
SAS (her employer now) to cover your travel expenses.
